Jonathan is an Advanced Techno-Economic Analysist with over a decade of experience in the bio economy and with start-up companies. His expertise includes Financial Due Diligence, Cellulosic Ethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuels, RINs, LCFS, and Specialty Chemicals.
His past experience includes over 13 years as the VP of Finance at Sweetwater Energy, a biomaterials and clean energy venture. Jonathan helped found this cellulosic ethanol company and developed all of the company’s financial projections including extensive, adaptive techno-economic analyses that looked beyond conventional biofuels and paved the way for higher-value possibilities in sustainable aviation fuels and specialty chemicals. He has an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester, and a BS in science communication from Cornell University. Jonathan began his career as a science press officer, conducting extensive interviews with scientists and engineers to understand and communicate the importance of their thought leadership and enable the translation of their work into commercial impact. Those skills transferred into his financial modeling to allow him to conduct uniquely intuitive techno-economic analyses and communicate the complex results in a clear and meaningful way for precision due diligence, informing investment community decision-making. Jonathan has extensive experience with Federal and State level government decarbonization and biofuel programs, including RFS / RINs, LCFS, IRA NMTC, OZone, and local economic development stimulus packages.
Currently Jonathan serves on The Executive Team of Synthec Fuels, a sustainable aviation fuel manufacturing venture and on The Executive Team of Aquatic Fuels, a low carbon venture converting invasive aquatic biomass to renewable natural gas.
Jonathan also serves as a Managing Partner at Penguin Path Capital, a firm focused on enabling advantaged project level debt raises for accelerating decarbonization projects globally.
