Robert Baldwin
Dr. Robert Baldwin has been a Principal Scientist at The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for over 17 years with extensive experience in catalysis, reaction engineering, biomass gasification, biomass liquefaction, upgrading of bio-oil, and advanced biofuels. In this capacity he is situated at the intersection of scientific discovery, technology scale up, and business development for the United States Department of Energy.
Bob’s thought leadership and experience throughout both the petroleum industry and the bioeconomy has brought him to the forefront of the energy and materials transition, particularly in the fields of sustainable aviation fuel, biorefinery scale up, and bioplastics.
Spanning nearly 50-years, Bob’s career has taken him around the globe cultivating a vast reservoir of academic, industrial, and operational experience enabling his unique depth and breadth of contributions to sustainability and decarbonization.
He has served as a Professor at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology for 2 years, at The Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi in The United Arab Emirates for 7 years, and at Colorado School of Mines for over 29 years.
Currently Bob also serves on the Executive Team of Synthec Fuels, a sustainable aviation fuel manufacturing venture and also serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Team of Aquatic Fuels, a low carbon venture converting invasive aquatic biomass to renewable natural gas.
